Building A New Garage And Your Boat Now Has No Home? 2 Tips To Keep It In Good Shape

If you are building a new garage and your boat has no place to stay, it could get damaged sitting outside unprotected.  Fortunately, there are many things you can do to keep your boat in good shape so you can get it out on the water as soon as your garage is finished. Two of these things are listed below to help you get started.

Cover it Up

The most important thing you can do is to cover up your boat. You can do this by purchasing a marine canvas. You can find this type of canvas at marine supply stores, and they are made with a variety of fabrics.

Fabrics used may be dyed acrylic, which does not fade due to the sun, does not shrink and stretch, and is easy to clean, or vinyl -coated polyester, which is waterproof, resistant to UV light, and is durable. You can also choose vinyl-coated acrylic, with is completely waterproof, easy to clean, and resists abrasion. You can find all these canvases in a variety of colors.

The canvas manufacturer will ask you for the make and model of your boat to ensure you purchase a canvas that will cover it properly. Companies like Pacific Boat Tops & Upholstery Inc. can help you find the right one.

Wax It

Adding a coat of wax to the boat will protect the paint from the sun's UV rays. This is especially important if you choose not to use a canvas cover. Before you wax, however, give your boat a thorough cleaning and let it completely dry. You can find cleaners that are made for boats, such as for a fiberglass boat. Follow the directions on the cleaner and use a boat brush to thoroughly scrub the boat. Rinse with a hose when finished and let it completely dry.

Purchase wax at an auto parts store or the boat supply store may also sell it. Do research to ensure you purchase a good wax. Apply the wax in a circular motion one section of your boat at a time. Let this section completely dry and then buff. To buff the boat, you can use a power buffer or you can use a soft towel or microfiber cloth. Keep moving the buffer or your towel in a circular motion until the wax is removed and the surface is shiny. Continue doing this until your entire boat is waxed.

By following these tips, you should not have to worry about your boat until you can get it back into your garage.
